Database consolidation and website relaunch

Based in Münster, Germany, WestLotto operates about 3,500 collection points in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, and offers gambling options online and on mobile end devices. About 350 employees managing the company’s lottery and betting games ensure a technically-secure, responsible and faultless gambling experience for the people of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The project

WestLotto is placing its bets on expanding its online and mobile channels in order to make its services available from anywhere, at any time. An important prerequisite for this is a consistent, uniform customer database. Until 2013 the company used two solutions — a central system allocated to known POS customers, and in parallel to this, an in|FOCUS database for customer data from mobile and online channels. Together with adesso, WestLotto discontinued the POS customer database and began using the in|FOCUS system as its single customer database. By doing so, the company established an important basis for its planned Website relaunch. The goal is to offer gamblers a modern user experience both online and on their mobile end devices. For every stage of the relaunch, the managers at WestLotto relied on the knowledge of adesso’s experts — from concept development, to technology selection and development, to the content management system.

The result

Since consolidating its databases, WestLotto can now manage all direct customers across all its channels, which is of immense importance for controlling campaigns and ‘responsible gaming.’

“From April 2017 onwards gamblers can experience a totally new version of WestLotto online,” says David Kreuzinger, who is responsible for the Online, Product Management, Marketing and Innovation Management divisions at WestLotto. “By the end of the revamp, we’ll have a much neater website with a clear user focus.” From now on, modern technology will be working away behind the scenes, including responsive HTML5 technology and the latest, secure web frameworks, such as Spring MVC in connection with Thymeleaf.
